Encaustics

"Frozen" 8x10 (Sold)

"Points of Origin" 5x7

I was very hesitant to dabble in this medium.  I actually had everything set up and ready to go (exhaust hood - thanks to my husband and a dryer vent fan) for over a year before jumping in.  As usual, it was far more scary in my mind than in reality.

These pieces are wax, paper, photographs and feathers.  I've also done pieces strictly using encaustic paint.  I actually even made some of my own pigment wax.  Very easy to do.

I love the smell of the wax and the million things you can do with it.

And We Start Again

These are the first two in a series of abstract landscapes.  I am very excited to be doing these again.  When I first started on this creative journey (about 5 years ago) paper collage was my very first attempt of doing something besides photography.  Over the last few years I've found my courage and started working with other mediums - encaustic, plaster, acrylic paints/mediums and ink. I've now come full circle and fell in love with paper again.

At the moment things are very good in my little creative corner of the world.  Feel very blessed for all the opportunities and wonderful people I've encountered these past two years.

Beginnings

It's been a long time since I've visited my blog.  With the new year approaching I thought it would be the perfect time to be more focused on it.

Creatively, I'm experimenting with new mediums (encaustic, acrylic and oil pastels).  I'll share the good, the bad and the ugly with anyone who cares to sit and visit for a while.

My goal for 2013 is to create one piece of art every day for the entire year.

I can't wait....

Happy New Year !

Art & Family

Despite the weather, it was an awesome weekend.  My mom and two sisters came from Indiana to help me out at the Lincoln Highway Art Festival.  The last time I saw them was last November.  They're crazy and they make me laugh and miss them all the more.

The weather was cool and we ended up getting rained on three times, but it was well worth it.  The crowd was great and people were very generous in many, many ways.  Mt Vernon has such a vibrant energy to it.....highly recommend you stop and visit if you're in that neck of the woods.

The feedback I got regarding my pieces was more than I could have asked for.  Affirmations and confirmations are always a good thing!  I'm very grateful to all those who enjoyed my work and their inspiring and encouraging words.

Encouraging

I found out this morning that I've been accepted to participate in a local art festival next month.  Needless to say I'm very happy and grateful.

Staking A Claim

I am in the process of creating a new space for me to continue my art journey.  Currently I've been working out of a small spare bedroom in our home.  Hopefully by the end of this week I will have everything moved and organized in a commercial space that we own.  I'm very excited and cannot wait.

Between the chaos of the holidays and work, I haven't had a chance to really dig in and mess around creatively (insert sad face).   But that has all changed with my resolve to CREATE time to be creative.

The New Year already brought me incentive and opportunity:  I've been approached about creating some pieces (one piece in tile and the other paper) and I'm excited/nervous to get going on those pieces.  Since my initial post on the tiles, I've experiemented more with the alcohol inks which resulted in some stunning results.  Late in October I did three paper collage pieces that turned out rather well, so I'm anxious to pursue that more.

I'm hoping to have a date with Dick Blick tomorrow and purchase some treasures.  I also plan on fooling around with National Geoghrapic and Citra-Solv.  Let the magic begin.....
